Matterhorn Peak - North Arete (5.6)
The Sawtooth Range, Sierra Nevada - 2 days

Climbing the North Arete of Matterhorn Peak, one of the High Sierra's classic rock climbing routes, is a truly alpine experience.

The North Arete rock climbing route is very alpine in character, involving much 4th class terrain as well as many 5th class rock climbing moves up to 5.6 in difficulty. This makes it well within reach of most rock climbers who are able to follow 5.6.

Matterhorn Peak itself is the high point of the Magnificent Sawtooth Range laying on the Northern Border of Yosemite National Park, near the Eastern Sierra town of Bridgeport.

We do this in a two-day climb where we approach Matterhorn Peak the first day and then do the North Arete climb and descend back to the trail head the second day. Some ice axe use may be required on the descent from the summit.
