Alpine Mountain Camp- 3 day Intro to Mountaineering
The Sawtooth Range, Sierra Nevada

An introduction to alpine climbing and mountaineering while attempting California's spectacular Matterhorn Peak (12,279 ft). This 3-day mountain climbing course is based in the Sawtooth Range of the Sierra Nevada, one of the most spectacular alpine climbing areas in California...and one of the least crowded.

Gain valuable knowledge and receive training in all aspects of alpine climbing and mountaineering during this mountaneering course.

Includes instruction in:

  • Rock Scrambling
  • Rope work & belaying
  • Snow Climbing
  • Ice Ax Self Arrest
  • Crampon use

Then put it all together in a climb of Matterhorn Peak, via the West Couloir, a 4th class snow couloir and rock scrambling route. Learn ice axe use and self arrest, crampon and snow climbing techniques and basic rock climbing.

Location: Sawtooth Range - Bridgeport, California, East Side of the Sierra. Only 4 1/2 hours from the S.F. Bay Area and and one hour north of the resort town of Mammoth Lakes.

Food:
At California Alpine Guides we strive to provide healthy and delicious gourmet backcountry meals. Breakfast and dinner are provided by your guide / backcountry chef while in the field. Special diets can be accommodated.

Prerequisites: No previous climbing or mountaineering experience required. Previous backpacking experience recommended.
