Day 1
We meet at the Cottonwood Lakes Trailhead in the Eastern
Sierra High Country at 9:00am. This is about 40 minutes
from the town of Lone Pine. After a brief pack check
we head West on the
Cottonwood Pass trail over Cottonwood Pass and into
Sequoia National Park. We will make camp for the night
in the Upper Rock Creek area. Approx. a 9-mile day.
Day 2
We continue on in Sequoia National Park down Rock
Creek towards our goal of Mount Whitney passing through
spectacular alpine terrain. Our goal for the night
is either Crabtree Meadows or Guitar Lake, depending
on group strength. Approx. a 9-13 mile day.
Day 3
An early start finds us hiking up towards Mount Whitney
with light packs since we will be back at our basecamp
for the evening. We climb Mt Whitney from the East,
avoiding most of the crowds. After summiting we descend
back to our cozy basecamp.
Day 4
We retrace our steps of day two.
Day 5
We retrace our steps of day One, arriving back at
the trailhead in the late afternoon.
