Day 1
We meet at the Lodgepole Ranger Station at 9 am. After
a pack check and gear discussion we have short drive
to the trailhead where we begin our 6 mile ski into
basecamp. Along the way we will discuss avalance awareness
and rescue basics with an avalanche transciever clinic.
We spend the afternoon building a "bombproof"
winter ski camp near Pear Lake, on the edge of the
Tablelands. If there's time we may sneak a few runs
in near camp
Day 2
Getting an early start we explore the terrain around
"Skiers Alta", an offshoot of Alta peak, one
of the best ski peaks on the Western Slope of the Sierra.
We may also venture up towards the Tablelands. After
a long day we enjoy some fine winter camp cuisine. Along
the way we will instruct in the basics of avalanche
awareness and other backcountry skiing techniques.
Day 3
Another early start finds us getting in some more vertical.
The afternoon is spent breaking camp and skiing back
to the trailhead. Usually we arrive at the cars by 4pm.
