Day 1
We meet at the Bridgeport Ranger Station at 9:00 am.
After a pack check and gear discussion we have a short
drive to the trailhead where we begin our 4 mile ski
into basecamp at the Sawtooth Glacier. This can be
a strenous day with 3000 ft of vertical and overnight
packs. Along the way we will review avalance awareness
and rescue basics with an avalanche transciever clinic.
We spend the afternoon building a "bombproof"
winter ski camp and sneaking in a few turns if possible.
Day 2
Today is spent ski touring among the wide open bowls
and tight couloirs of the Sawtooth Ridge. Instruction
is in steep couloir skiing and ice axe and cramponing
techniques while getting in as much vertical as the
group desires.
Day
3:
We spend another day among the spires and couloirs
of the Sawtooths. We will introduce ropework, snow
anchors using skis and rappelling in between our descent
shots. We will also attempt the summit of one of the
Sawtooth's peaks via a couloir and easy rock scrambling
route to round out our mountaineering experience.
Day 4:
After an early morning ski descent near camp, we will
work on crevasse rescue skills using skis and ice
axes. There will also be discussion on skiing over
crevassed terrain. After breaking camp we enjoy a
3000 ft descent to the trailhead arriving around 3pm.
