Day 1
We meet at the Horseshoe Meadows Camp ground next to the Cottonwood Pass Trailhead in the Eastern
Sierra High Country in the early evening (exact time TBD). This is about 35 minutes
from the town of Lone Pine. We spend the night at the Horseshoe Meadows campground (10,000 ft) to properly acclimate for our trip. Dinner is provided and we will have the tents available for your use.
Day 2
After breakfast (provided) we head West on the Cottonwood Pass trail over Cottonwood Pass and into
Sequoia National Park. Along the way we have great views of the Big Whitney Meadows and travel past the starkly beautiful Siberian Outpost. We will make camp for the night
in the Rock Creek area . We have some porter support this day to carry the group gear in which consists of the tents, group food and group cooking gear. Approx. an 11-mile day.
Day 3
We continue on in Sequoia National Park from Rock
Creek towards our goal of Mount Whitney passing by Beautiful Guyot Meadows. We also have great views up the Kern River Canyon to the West. Our goal for the night is the Crabtree Meadows area just east of Mount Whitney. Approx. a 9-mile day.
Day 4
An early start finds us hiking up towards Mount Whitney
with light packs since we will be back at our basecamp
for the evening. We climb Mt Whitney from the West,
avoiding most of the crowds. The trail up the Eastern escarpment of Whitney is exciting with great views down into Sequoia NP. On the summit we look 10,000 ft down into the Owens Valley. After summiting we descend
back to our cozy basecamp for a celebratory dinner and a good nights rest.
Day 5
We retrace our steps of day two back to Rock Creek.
Day 6
We retrace our steps of day One, arriving back at
the Horseshoe Meadows trailhead in the late afternoon.
