Matterhorn & Mont Blanc Itinerary

Day 0:
We meet in the evening at our hotel in Chamonix.
Day 1:
Warm up climb in the Chamonix area, probably in the
Aiguille Rouge area. Overnight in town.
Day 2:
Another climb in Chamonix to further our acclimating,
probably the classic Cosmiques Arete on the Aiguille
du Midi. Overnight in town.
Day 3:
Travel to the Hut on Mont Blanc which involves some
rock scrambling. Overnight at the hut.
Day 4:
Summit attempt of Mont Blanc via either the Trois
Sommets Traverse or the normal Gouter Route, depending
upon conditions and group goals. There are spectacular
views from the top of Western Europe. This is a long
day as we descend all the way back to Chamonix. Overnight
in town.
Day 5:
Relax and rest in Chamonix/weather day in case we
need an extra day for Mont Blanc or Matterhorn. Evening in Chamonix or travel to Zermatt.
Day 6:
Travel by train in the morning to Zermatt or training day in Zermatt. Overnight
in Zermatt
Day 7:
Training for the Matterhorn via a day climb of the
Breithorn via a knife-edge technical, mixed ridge
traverse or alpine rock rock climbing on the Riffelhorn.
Overnight in Zermatt.
Day 8:
Travel to the Matterhornhutte (Hornli Hut) in the
afternoon. Overnight at the hut.
Day 9:
Summit attempt of The Matterhorn via the Horni Ridge.
Descent back to the Hornli Hut and back to town for a celebratory dinner.
On the Alps trips everyone
is responsible for their own food and lodging. However, CAG/IAG will
make all the neccessary hotel, hut and in-country
transportation reservations and handle all in-country
logistics.
