A challenging backcountry adventure and ascent Picacho del Diablo, Baja's
elusive highest peak. We combine the peak ascent with a stay
at a beautiful Mexican winery. A unique mountain climbing
adventure that combines visiting Mexico's finest
wineries with a three-day mountain climb of "the devil
mountain" in one of Mexico's national parks.
Picacho del Diablo is a much sought after peak to bag and is on the Sierra Club's "desert peak list"
We begin with a stay at The Adobe Guadalupe in the beautiful
Valle de Guadalupe, just inland from the port city of Ensenada
(only two hours south of San Diego). The Adobe Guadalupe is
a working winery and inn that produces some of the best wines
in Mexico. Experience gourmet food and a private tasting and
tour of The Adobe.
Then it's time for adventure of a very different kind where
we trade the soft linens of the Adobe for a mummy bag. We
travel by van to the Parque Nacional San Pedro Martir where
we embark on a strenous three day backcountry journey to the
top of Baja California. Four nights are spent in the remote
high wilds of Baja among the pines and boulders in Mexico's beautiful San Pedro Martir National Park. We descend
into the spectacular Canon del Diablo amond a lush creek to
establish our base camp.
We then attempt the summit of Picacho del Diablo via a scrambling
route where the use of a rope may be necessary. At the end
of our journey we find ourselves back at the Adobe lounging
around the pool and hot tub sipping wine. (An extra night
at the Adobe at the end of the trip is a highly reccommended
option) A unique backcountry climbing adventure!
